NYC — Real Cubism Study
This artwork is part of my Real Cubism series — a painting approach constructed from square pixel structures rather than traditional cubist geometry.
Each composition is created manually using small square color blocks, forming a bridge between digital pixel aesthetics and traditional acrylic painting. From a distance the image resolves into a recognizable urban scene, while up close the viewer can observe the grid of individual color units that construct the composition.
This piece captures the energy and rhythm of New York City, where architecture, streets, and movement intersect within a dense urban landscape. The structured pixel grid reflects the geometric nature of the city itself, echoing the vertical lines of skyscrapers and the layered patterns of streets and buildings, highlighting its transportation systems and stations.
Through bold color contrasts and simplified forms, the painting transforms a familiar city scene into a study of structure, movement, and visual rhythm. The result balances architectural order with expressive abstraction, allowing the city to emerge gradually from the grid.
Every piece in the series is an original work by Rafael Brango.
